What these breathless news reports always fail to mention is that GLOCK Inc. has absolutely nothing to do with these so-called “switches.” They don’t manufacture, sell, or endorse these aftermarket gun parts in any way.
Blaming GLOCK is like suing FORD because aftermarket tuners made illegal modifications to make Mustangs faster and then tried to hold the automaker responsible.
In yet another politically motivated attack on the firearm industry, Baltimore City and the state of Maryland have filed a lawsuit against GLOCK, Inc.
Falsely blaming the manufacturer for the criminal misuse of its legally sold firearms. The lawsuit, filed in the Circuit Court of Maryland for Baltimore City, follows a growing trend of anti-gun states and cities weaponizing the legal system to punish gunmakers for crimes they did not commit and cannot control.
At the heart of the case is the claim that Glock pistols are “easily modified” with illegal auto sears—often called “Glock switches”—to fire fully automatic. These devices, overwhelmingly manufactured in China or 3D-printed by criminals, are already illegal under federal law. But instead of enforcing existing laws and going after those who possess these devices, Baltimore and Maryland officials have chosen to sue the company that had nothing to do with their proliferation.
Maryland Attorney General Anthony Brown and Baltimore Mayor Brandon Scott, both backed by Everytown for Gun Safety a group funded with millions of your tax dollars, argue that Glock should redesign its pistols to prevent the possibility of illegal modifications. Brown went so far as to say that “Glock could have designed its pistols to prevent auto sears from working. They chose not to. That choice cost lives.”
This ignores the fact that criminals, not manufacturers, are responsible for illegal modifications, and it sets a dangerous precedent where any product could be held liable for illegal alterations by third parties.
The lawsuit is based on Maryland’s newly enacted Gun Industry Accountability Act, a law specifically designed to circumvent the federal Protection of Lawful Commerce in Arms Act (PLCAA), which protects firearm manufacturers from being sued over crimes committed by third parties using their products. Similar lawsuits have been filed in Chicago, New Jersey, and Minnesota, all coordinated efforts to financially cripple the firearms industry through frivolous litigation rather than address the root causes of violent crime.
Glock has not publicly responded to the latest lawsuit, but in previous cases, the company has firmly defended itself against these baseless claims. Industry advocates argue that holding Glock accountable for criminals illegally modifying their firearms is akin to blaming Ford for reckless drivers or Milwaukee Tool for drill bits used in illegal activities.
Pro-gun groups, including the National Shooting Sports Foundation (NSSF), have condemned these lawsuits as politically motivated attacks against lawful businesses.
“This is the very definition of ‘lawfare’ and should be rejected by the courts,” said NSSF Senior Vice President Lawrence G. Keane. “Maryland is seeking to blame Glock and other industry members for the actions of criminals.”
Ironically, Glock pistols are among the most trusted sidearms used by law enforcement agencies across the country, including in Baltimore itself. Yet, instead of supporting the company that helps arm and protect its police force, Baltimore officials have chosen to demonize Glock in an effort to push their broader anti-gun agenda.
Michael Bloomberg’s Everytown heavily backs the push for these lawsuits for “Gun Safety,” which has funded legal attacks against the firearm industry for years.
With Congress and federal courts repeatedly rejecting extreme gun control measures, anti-gun activists have turned to the courts in blue states, hoping to drain gun manufacturers with endless financial litigation.
While Maryland politicians push this lawsuit as a way to “reduce crime,” the real issue is the city’s refusal to enforce existing laws against criminals. If Baltimore officials were serious about public safety, they would be targeting those who illegally obtain and use firearms, not the companies that lawfully manufacture and sell them.
The courts should recognize this lawsuit for what it is—a politically motivated attempt to undermine the firearms industry and erode Second Amendment rights. The actual threat to public safety isn’t Glock; it’s the failure of cities like Baltimore to enforce the laws already on the books. This case, like others before it, should be swiftly dismissed to protect lawful businesses from unjustified attacks by anti-gun politicians.

Your Gun Lobby Files Amended Claim Against New Jersey Anti-PLCAA Law Allowing Frivolous Lawsuits
I think the solution to frivolous law suits like this. Glock needs to go after the lawyers bringing the cases personally for “legal fees” make the lawyers afraid to bring the cases.
Glock should immediately issue a statement that in light of these capricious lawsuits, the company will no longer sell any firearms to Maryland law enforcement. And all warranty work and repairs for Maryland are terminated.
Simple solution: fight back. Refuse to sell to any law enforcement agency in the state that sues. Then try to get other manufacturers to do the same, “not crossing the picket line.” When they can’t replace their firearms this crap will stop.
I wonder now that Gaston Glock’s dead, if who ever’s running Glock will have the guts to fight these lawsuits or cower, and do something like S&W did in the ’90s when they added those dumb Hillary Holes?
