New findings demonstrate that lighter ammunition reduces troop casualties, improves mobility, and increases battlefield effectiveness.

Eubank, KY – Shell Shock Technologies, LLC. The study, based on over 885,000 simulations, confirms that a 30 percent reduction in ammunition weight significantly enhances soldier survivability, mobility, and endurance.
A key finding reveals that for a 13-member Marine Rifle Squad engaging an enemy in a defensive position, rushing across 100 meters of rough desert terrain, a 15 lbs. weight reduction for troops can cut squad casualties from 8.9 to 3.5 per engagement.
With ammunition accounting for 8 lbs. per troop, a 30 percent reduction (2.4 lbs. per troop) contributes to 16 percent of the total weight savings—potentially saving one troop per engagement.
Beyond reducing casualties, SST’s lightweight ammunition improves combat efficiency by allowing soldiers to carry more rounds without increasing their load, boosting mobility and agility in the battlefield. IMOA, the military will take the 30% weight it saved and just up the combat load by 30% with more ammo or some other piece of gear.
Spent 20 in. Noting gets lighter. If they reduce here they add another piece of gear there.
Lighter ammo is good MAYBE. Time will tell. Let’s see how long term storage does. Elements and time combined do etc. I saw the plastic cases with brass heads in the 90s and then all plastic cases later and so on.
This is nothing new. This is how the M16/5.56mm replaced the M1 Garand 30-06/M14 .308 as the standard issue rifle. Lighter rifle, lighter ammo. That equals more ammo that can be carried, less fatigue, faster movements, faster firing, faster snap shooting… Faster and less fatigue.
We don’t need a study to know this.

Correct. If anyone thinks the US military, especially the Army, will reduce the weight a soldier carries then they need to take a reality check. I saw a unit that brought running shoes just in case their combat mission needed them to run faster than boots allowed.
Save weight they’ll just make you carry more, or something else to make it up. And when you get out crippled, it’s ‘not service related’.
So a 30% weight reduction provides additional survivability, but the weight reduction means you can carry more ammo without increasing the load….there goes the increase in survivability by going right back to the original weight!
So, basically you die with more ammo on you that the enemy can then scavage?
