A key finding reveals that for a 13-member Marine Rifle Squad engaging an enemy in a defensive position, rushing across 100 meters of rough desert terrain, a 15 lbs. weight reduction for troops can cut squad casualties from 8.9 to 3.5 per engagement.

Going from 1 piece to 2 pieces introduces twice the potential points of failure. When it comes to ammo it’s better to stick with the tried and true. Speaking as someone who served as a marine I can tell you that 2-3 pounds doesn’t make a difference. If I read the article correctly all testing was simulations.
