Palmetto State Armory (PSA) is dipping its toes into the suppressor market. Through a partnership with Capitol Armory, the South Carolina-based site has started selling silencers on its popular retail website.
The suppressor market has exploded in recent years due to the speed at which the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives’ (ATF) National Firearms Act (NFA) Division is processing Form 4 applications. The processing of NFA forms used to take years until recently. With the help of the ATF’s eForms system and changes to the method and procedures of processing the forms, the ATF has been returning approvals for Form 4s in a matter of days.

Those ATF changes to the speed of processing forms mean the market can support another website selling suppressors. PSA has followed the lead of other websites and is using a system to ship directly to the customer’s door. The system works because after the ATF Form 4 is approved, Capitol Armory ships the suppressor to a Federal Firearms License (FFL) Special Occupational Tax (SOT) holder in the same state as the buyer. Because of federal law, FFL SOT holders can ship the suppressor right to the buyer’s door, eliminating costly transfer fees for NFA items that can run up to a couple of hundred dollars.
PSA is selling multiple brands of suppressors at different price points. Almost every suppressor of any caliber is available for sale. Some popular brands of suppressors carried by PSA are Yankee Hill Manufacturing (YHM), Rugged Suppressors, HUXWRX Safety Company, Dead Air, and Q, LLC. In addition to suppressors, PSA also offers multiple suppressor accessories, including compatible muzzle devices, shim kits, and thread adapters.
Gone are the days of suppressor myths. People no longer view these as tools of assassins or something nefarious. The broad public acceptance of suppressors has led to shortages in the availability of the safety devices. With the speed of approvals, manufacturers are having a hard time keeping up with the demand from gun owners. These new offerings by PSA give buyers another avenue to acquire hearing-saving devices.
With bills like the Silencers Helping Us Save Hearing (SHUSH) Act and the Hearing Protection Act (HPA), deregulation of suppressors is possible. The HPA would remove suppressors from the NFA but keep them regulated by the Gun Control Act of 1968 (GCA). The SHUSH Act would remove suppressors from both the NFA and the GCA. If either of these bills passes, the suppressors market will increase exponentially. PSA having suppressors on their site already will give the firearms giant a head start.
The partnership between PSA and Capitol Armory could expose more people to suppressors than ever before. Even though suppressors are already widely accepted by many in the gun community, the notoriety of the PSA site can even lead to more buyers. PSA has helped get AR-15s in the hands of millions of Americans, assisting the case for common use. The company now has an opportunity to do the same for suppressors.

Think of how the silencer market would explode but for the complicated regulations and the tax!! Geez, John Crump could you write a list of steps, in chronological order, to buy one of these. It seems complicated and with a predatory federal agency in charge I would not want to make a mistake.
Have refused to jump in NFA Cess Pool, refuse to acquiesce to their tyranny for shushies, metal ear plugs. “…suppressor market has exploded in recent years…” not like it would have were Trump to not have screwed 2A peeps like he did first lap on suppressors, reciprocity, bumpies, et el. Waiting to hear re Bondi mtg at DOJ. Should be important for him to go there, rather than have BLONDIE come to WH….mamma’s ole “DON’T MAKE ME COME IN THERE” scenario….????
Pass, I’ll just wear earmuffs, cheaper too
I’m waiting for the ATF $200 to go away and for suppressor prices to be cheaper than my pistol.
I am still waiting for the STUPID License or whatever it is called to be eliminated. Hope i live long enough to see it happen.
Suppressor’s SHOULD be as easy to buy as a new magazine.
So should guns for that matter.
Pay them the money, and leave with the item.
