Fairfax, VA – -(Ammoland.com)- Last week, the California Department of Justice (DOJ) Privacy Office began mailing letters like this one to certified Firearm Safety Instructors.
The letter states that on October 14, 2016, DOJ inadvertently disclosed the name, date of birth, and California Driver’s License and/or Identification Card numbers of potentially every single DOJ certified Firearm Safety Instructor in California to an unknown requestor.
DOJ allegedly discovered the breach on October 27—well over two months ago—but is just now notifying individuals.
As if this wasn’t already cause for concern, in the recently submitted “assault weapon” regulations DOJ is attempting to include a “non-liability” clause. This clause requires all individuals who voluntarily register their firearms as “assault weapons” to hold DOJ harmless for any liability for hardware, software, information, or other issues associated with the registration process.
Essentially, DOJ is requiring individuals to waive their constitutionally protected right to privacy in order to participate in their constitutionally protected right to keep and bear arms!

Wow! Such hate for California. I happen to live in California and am just as unhappy about what is going on here as anyone else is regarding the Second Amendment. You do realize that as of Jan. 1 we have to go through a background check now just to buy ammo? The problem is not that we are too laid back to see or care whats going on. California gun owners had the chance to sign several different petitions concerning the States “Unconstitutional” gun laws, and they did nothing! Hardly any of the States gun owners signed any of the petitions! Not enough signatures means no petitions! You all talk the talk , but you sure don’t walk the walk. Therefore you get the Government you deserve!
I would venture that some group or individual who wanted the list for whatever reason had a friend who obtained the info for them. During a review by the department involved the release of the info was discovered. You don’t just “happen to release” that type of info. The problem in Khalifornia is the attitude of the anti people. California is busy outlawing everything even remotely related to the manufacture and sale of firearms. Since people cannot be outlawed, its trying to scare them away. The state soon will finish this little task. And when crime becomes (ahem) unbearable, California will blame the other states. Predictable.
There is nothing “inadvertent” about releasing classified or sensitive files. You have to search a secure database and attach it to an email. Sending such information to an “unknown requester” is just plain stupid and a violation of every office I have ever seen or worked in. This egregious and blatant act is yet further indication of kaly doj willingly falling in line with the gun banner bureaucrats. Reminds me of one of their original ‘assault weapons’ study some 30 years or so ago. They attempted to ‘prove’ that those so-called evil weapons were frequently used in crime and needed to be banned. When their results showed the opposite, they tried to quash the study. Fortunately, someone leaked that result. Didn’t really matter as the powers that be STILL got their way…………granolaland indeed.
Since the California Attorney General, who was Kamala Harris at the time and heads the DOJ, is a liberal who hates guns elected by liberals who also hate guns I think you can see why nothing will be done. She might even have assigned the task to someone to “inadvertently release” the info.
if the data were released, they went SOMEWHERE. If the request came electronically, there is an ISP or MAC address avaialble, and that will be a line to the recipient of the data. If California DoJ are reallly concerned about the security of the people they “serve”, they MUST trace out the destination of that data, easily doable. Then take action against the recipient. The fact they’ve not done is proof they are NOT concerned about the safety of thjeir people.
