Montana – Dear MSSA Friends,
Montana Shooting Sports Association had a good Annual Meeting in Helena last Saturday. Thanks to those of you who attended. For those who did not attend, maybe that was smart. My drive from Missoula was terrible – maybe the worst road conditions (pure ice) I’ve seen in 200 or 300 trips over that stretch of highway in the last 30 years.
I was REALLY glad to have new, siped, studded snow tires and 4WD.
At the meeting, it was agreed that Montana Shooting Sports Association’s first priority for the 2019 legislative session should be our School Safety Act, introduced as House Bill 385 in the 2017 session, to allow (not require) competent and trained teachers to possess firearms at work.
We had also invited candidates for the U.S. Senate and U.S. House to stop in and give us a short pitch. I’d told them we couldn’t give each candidate much time and that we’d not hold it against any who could not show. Troy Downing and Russ Fagg showed up, and Tim Macy, Chairman of Gun Owners of America, flew in to speak for Matt Rosendale. All three of these candidates are Republicans running in the primary to be able to challenge Senator Tester in the General Election.
Once the candidate filing deadline is past, on March 12th, Montana Shooting Sports Association will send its candidate questionnaires to all federal and legislative candidates. When these are returned, we will evaluate the questionnaires and add in what else we know about candidates, including voting records if a candidate has one, and will make our endorsements for the June Primary Election. We will get those endorsements and recommendations out to you ASAP.
Senate candidate Russ Fagg is holding a drawing for a Taurus Judge revolver (Fagg just retired from being a judge). I told him I’d forward his message about that to you:

Gary,Thank you for the opportunity to speak to the Montana Shooting Sports Association this morning. As mentioned, please have your members and email contacts send their email to my campaign at russformontana.com for a chance to win “The Judge” revolver. We will have the drawing on Election Day, June 5th 2018.
Thank you,
Russ
