OSHAWA, ON, Canada – -(AmmoLand.com)- The Canadian Shooting Sports Association (CSSA) has launched a multi-pronged lawsuit against the Canadian federal government for its de facto handgun confiscation scheme euphemistically labeled a “handgun freeze.”

The Trudeau government scheme, initiated in various forms by a proposed House of Commons’ regulation, an Order in Council, and a ministerial discretion order under the Export and Imports Permits Act, affects hundreds of thousands of licensed handgun owners with the ultimate effect of confiscating their property without compensation.

“The Supreme Court is clear on the issue of property confiscation,” said Tony Bernardo, Executive Director of the CSSA. “Compensation must be paid when government confiscates the lawfully acquired property of private citizens, and this government is attempting to circumvent the Criminal Code and longstanding Supreme Court precedent.”

“The Trudeau government attempts to trample on provincial jurisdiction in order to avoid paying compensation to handgun owners. They rendered handguns valueless by freezing the lawful handgun market, then state the only legal recourse is to surrender this property to the government – a clear violation of the laws of succession and vesting of property upon death to a beneficiary.”

Through its attempts to bypass Parliament, the Trudeau government violated Sections 7 and 8 of the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms, the Constitution Acts, 1867-1982 consolidated, the Firearms Act SC, and provincial jurisdiction through the laws of succession and vesting of property upon death to a beneficiary.

“We will hold the Trudeau Liberal government to account in an impartial court of law for its blatant disregard of the civil rights of ordinary Canadians, its contempt for provincial jurisdiction, ministerial overreach, and its repeated violation of the Firearms Act and its supremacy in law,” said Tony Bernardo.

What is that statement in the Va. flag? Nothing good happens when a nation disarms it’s own citizens. History is full of examples of what happens; Hitler, Stalin, Mao, Pol Pot etc. all murdered their own citizens by the millions through starvation, biological warfare, gas chambers, firearms etc. It’s good that the Canadian citizens are going through the courts to get their GOD given rights back but, as far as I know of, it has never worked. It does show that they used every step required by any sane government to retrieve their GOD given rights before things get to… Read more »

you forgot to add the baby tyrants real father, fidel to your list.
it doesn’t matter where the abuse of power comes from, an individual, company or government, abuse is abuse and should be fought against by all means necessary to eliminate it. eventually they will stand up against baby fidel. they will use all weapons they have against you to keep you in your place, like they have against the trucker protestors. you can’t fight them with sticks and stones. give up your firearms and rights and you become a slave.

It’s Canada, the government can do whatever it wants. This is another example of what happens when there is a gun registry. Canadians thought that it could never happen to them…sound familiar?

no, Canada have laws just as we do. The reality on the streets might be they have lost their rights, but their LAWS say otherwse.

Glad they are taking a stand through th3ir organisations.
And yes, this has come upon them gradually as thy slumbered. One more warning to remain vigilant, and to swat the small gophers away before they get replaced by velociraptors.

Don’t think the Traitor Joe regime isn’t carefully watching Castro’s kid.

Even national disarmament is a disaster. Ukraine inherited a nuclear arsenal upon the dssolution of the USSE in 1991. It gave them up with several nations pledging pledging Ukraine’s “security”. Tussia was one of those nations.

The Canadian government will resort to what most gun banners use as the goto excuse, “it’s for public safety”. Same as legislatures in NY, NJ, CT, RI, IL. MD, CA and soon to be more US states. Don’t kid yourselves, the gun control movement is every bit as determined (although not as much grassroots) to advance their agenda as we are to preserve and/or enhance gun rights.
